A double stage vacuum pump by Central Scientific. It is patented and is the beginning of sophistication in vacuum technology!

A rotary , vane pump by Central Scientific. The life of the person in charge with maintaining the vacuum was a bit easier.

Same as above...but single stage. Incomparably poor results

 

John Roy, a colleague here at NSM, sharing same fascination with vacuum technology as me, built the contraption on the right for the museum. It contains a diffusion pump, to be in series with a rotary pump, a large, highly accurate, MacLeod vacuum gage, a cold trap, a bell jar and a discharge tube on top of it.
